How to Add Comments When Clocking In or Out

If your administrator has enabled comment fields, you can add notes every time you clock in or out using Web Punch. Comments are a handy way to record context about your shift — such as where you're working or why you're leaving early.

Where to Find the Comment Fields

Comment fields appear directly on the Web Punch clock-in/out card, below the status indicator and any job layer dropdowns.

  • If one comment field is enabled, it appears as Comment.

  • If two comment fields are enabled, they appear as Comment 1 and Comment 2.


How to Add a Comment

  1. Open Web Punch from the left-hand sidebar.

  2. Type your note into the Comment text box (or Comment 1 / Comment 2 if two are available).

  3. Click IN or OUT to clock in or out.

  4. Your comment is saved alongside the punch record.


Good to Know

  • Mandatory comments — If your administrator has turned on the mandatory comments setting, you must fill in at least one comment field before you can clock in or out.

  • Example uses — "Working from home today," "Leaving early — doctor appointment," or "Covering for evening shift."
