How to Create a Shift Template

Shift templates define everything about a shift — times, breaks, colour coding, and more. Once created, a template can be assigned on the roster or added to a shift pattern.

  1. Go to the Shifts page from the main menu.

  2. Click New Shift at the top of the Shifts section.

  3. Fill in the General tab:

    • Shift name — Give the shift a clear, recognisable name (e.g. “Morning”, “Night”). This cannot be changed after creation.

    • Start time / Finish time — Set when the shift begins and ends.

    • Limit start time / Limit finish time — Toggle on to ignore any time captured outside the shift window. Useful for preventing early clock-ins or late clock-outs from inflating hours.

    • Shift colour — Pick a colour so this shift stands out on the roster.

    • Enable prompts — Turn on to send shift reminder notifications to employees.

    • Not working — Mark this shift for days employees are not expected to work (e.g. a “Day Off” shift).

    • Exclude from Roster Auto-Fill — Prevent the roster auto-fill from assigning this shift automatically.

  4. Click Save.

Tips

  • Use clear, descriptive names — your team will see these on the roster and in the mobile app.

  • Assign a distinct colour to each shift so the roster is easy to read at a glance.

  • Use Limit start/finish time to enforce accurate timekeeping and prevent unintended overtime.
