How to Configure Employment Types

Employment types define the employee classifications your award applies to — for example, Full Time, Part Time, or Casual. Each employment type can have its own pay rules, rates, and allowances.

Where to Find It
  1. Go to Settings > Payroll Rules and scroll to the Pay Rules and Calculations section.
  2. Select or create an award, then open the Employment Types step (Step 2 in the wizard).

What You Will See
  • A list of employment types from your selected template
  • Each type shows its name, a toggle to enable or disable it, and a delete button
  • A New Employment Type button to add custom types

Managing Employment Types

Enable or Disable a Type

  • Use the toggle on each employment type card to turn it on or off.
  • Disabled types will not be used for pay calculations.

Delete a Type

  • Click the delete icon (trash can) on the employment type card.
  • This removes the type from the award entirely.

Adding a New Employment Type
  1. Click New Employment Type.
  2. Enter a Name for the new type.
  3. Choose one of the following options:
    • Copy from Existing Employment Type — select an existing type to copy its rules and settings. This is useful when types share similar configurations.
    • Start from Blank Employment Type — create a type with no pre-configured rules.
  4. Click Create.
  5. The new type appears in the list and can be configured in the Rules, Payroll Configuration, and Allowances steps.

Validation
  • Name is required — you must enter a name for the new employment type.
  • Name must be unique — you cannot create two employment types with the same name.

Tips
  • Copy from existing saves time when employment types share most of their rules (e.g., Full Time and Part Time may differ only in minimum engagement hours).
  • Disable rather than delete if you may need the type later — disabled types are preserved but excluded from calculations.
  • Employment type selections carry through to the Rules, Payroll Configuration, Pay Rates, and Allowances steps, where you configure settings per type.
