# How to Copy and Paste Shifts

## Copy & paste lets you duplicate a shift assignment to multiple days or positions quickly — great for repeating patterns without rebuilding from scratch.

### **Steps**

1. Switch to **Shift View**.
2. Click the **Copy** button in the toolbar.
3. The grid enters **copy mode** — checkboxes appear on each cell.
4. Select **one source cell** (the shift assignment you want to copy).
5. Click on **target cells** to mark where you want the copy pasted.
6. A **snackbar** appears — click **Save** to apply, or **Cancel** to discard.

### **Overlap Warnings**

If any of your pasted shifts overlap with existing assignments, Timecloud shows a **Shift Conflict** dialog before saving. The dialog explains each overlap — showing the employee name, the shift they are already assigned to, and the new shift being added.

You must choose one of three options before continuing:

- **Keep Current Shift** — discard the new shift and leave the existing assignment unchanged.
- **Keep New Shift** — replace the existing shift with the one you are pasting.
- **Keep Both Conflicting Shifts** — keep the existing shift and add the new shift alongside it.

Once you select an option, the **Continue** button becomes available.

If more than five employees have overlapping shifts, the dialog shows the first five and a summary line (e.g. "and 2 more employees have overlapping shifts").
